a break

i am taking a break from this blog in order to process some stuff. i set up this blog to be a conversational space. if, as maggi has commented, it is in reality a publishable space, then i am forced to rethink my energies.

i would love, in the kingdom, to be able to give all my work away. that was my dream in the creative commons license. but it appears i am required to be more careful. i am not sure i want a “careful” blog. appreciate your prayers.

  1. Yes, I will pray for that for sure.

I have discovered that blogging is a difficult process to nail down. My Dad recently called me and asked me what my blog was about. And I have to confess that I had a difficult time nailing it down.

Sometimes, I am a little dismayed at how very public my blogging is. I forget until I get a call from someone or run into someone who repeats back to me some decidedly very personal thoughts. I wish there were levels of security or inaccessibility in it. And b/c of that, I many times will either alter my thought to omit various sensitive parts or not blog the thought all together.

    I wish this weren’t so.

Deep peace of the Son of Peace!

  2. man that’s rough… i haven’t blogged yet because of this reason. i started, posted two meaningful ones, enjoyed the rush of it all and then panicked because of my desire for future publishing. i would hate the “blog world” to be damaged by this kind of thing. careful is not what we need either – your voice is important and if we have to wait to read it in paper form we’ll understand, but it will be a loss for the blog world. blessings on your “processing”

  3. I hope your processing time is helpful – I really value your open and honest thoughts on your blog, and would be saddened to see them dissapear.

I think the issue of a secure area is something you may wish to explore, I think you can set one up using typepad, but that costs $. Even so that would only mean certain people have access, and they would probably be ones you could buzz round with an email.

I get the feeling that the only way to play it is to see everything put on a blog as being ‘put out there’ having a life of its own, to be copied and distributed without the owners knowledge.

Maybe a third way is to put some stuff (i.e. intros to books, samples from articles) out there and accept the feedback that comes, if any, and hold back the fuller picture. I think for me I really like your writing so little samples would certainly prove to be enticing when the final completed form appeared.

  5. Don’t you dare give up your Blogg Steve! – You don’t need a break – you just need to keep processing your thoughts through it – I’ve been catching up with it since last Jan and have found it really stimulating. Sorry I havn’t responded before but the thought of you pulling it makes me feel guilty. What about publishing half an article then the other half on a request and feedback basis. There’s got to be a third way and with the Spirits help you can do it!
