bruised but

A blog break = no abuse from nameless punters … no emails to wade thru … no complex and ethical decisions about what to blog and what not to blog … no feeling like I am a baby in the matrix energy factory, with nameless people sucking me dry.

I have really enjoyed the break and have been very tempted to keep enjoying it. I found out one of the people who emailed on my stuff was a person I had helped in cyber and that was more bruising that finding out it had happened in the first place.

But then, a blog break = no meeting you … no expansion of my world … no interesting comments that open my mind … less public processing of God in my life …

OK, OK, so I will return … I will need a few more days for the bruising to die away and to put in place some lessons learnt.

At this stage I am working on 2 blogs: a publishable blog and a conversational blog.

One, the publishable blog, you can take what you want and use it to power your matrix.

The other, the conversational blog, well, if you are willing to sign up to tread carefully, speak clearly and take nothing with you, then I can throw you the keys to the front door of the conversational space. I keep your “email” promise on file and if you flog my stuff, I throw away your keys, or worse throw you to the lawyers. Sort of like a private dinner party where we all work together to enhance the conversation. We give energy and in exchange we go away richer.

You get the keys by requesting so in my publishable blog, which remains pretty much its usual self, just a bit lighter at times cos the real oil is in the conversational space where I can trust ya.

What do you think?

  1. If you’d be willing to cut an extra set of keys for me, I’d love to drop by.

  2. Steve, this sounds like good idea – even though the necessity is disappointing, I’m glad you’re willing to give it a go. I’ve enjoyed catching up on your posts for a while now (after hearing you speak at Kingdom Builders, my class at BCNZ, and at Graceway) so I was afraid there would be a big hole on my favourites list! Your comments connect really closely to my studies and so I’m thinking a lot about the kind of stuff you write about – so if I’m fortunate enough to get my hands on a set of keys, I will be a more “conversational” and less passive participant!

  3. Nice, maintains security for you and your personal intellectual property as well as keeping conversation open but secure. Perhaps a little less naive (sad to say but necessary)??

  8. Cool idea. The side of me that has had stuff stolen and republished, even under another name or resold is skeptical. For some reason Christians seem to have a hard time understanding what the common space where we post means. Internet = public domain for too many people.

I think you are taking a good step in educating people though.

  14. i don’t like it – maybe i’m alone. i prefer the notion of gift – that what we write and our art is made available. you have your creative commons which i love and must get round to signing up to myself. this feels too retreating to me. take it as a complement when people ‘borrow’ your stuff. that’s what its for. you have a book on the way next year – that will be still sell! in fact because of your blog it will sell a whole lot better. i don’t like blogs i visit where i am forced to login to talk. i have several friends that have them and i have never yet signed in….

  17. Jonny
I would love to do what you suggest. Like you, I believe that internet profile increases written profile.
But not all publishers agree. Until they change, I am stuck with needed to do different things in different spaces and to run different rules over the same piece of writing.
