Tucking hope in my pocket

A couple of years back
I gave some friends
a set of Advent blessings beads for Christmas.

Four wee glass beads with the words
hope, joy, love, peace
on them

One friend told me later
that she has them on her windowsill
and tucks the one she most needs for the day
into her pocket.

Today I am finding my set
and tucking hope into my pocket.

Hoping that Christmas will come!
Hoping that I will be ready:
ready spiritually and ready practically
Hoping that i will get at least the majority
of my paid-work-hours done over the next fortnight
Hope that I won’t lose sight of the reason for Advent,
the one for whom we are waiting.

All that had gone before

I came across the following quote yesterday.
An encouragement
from someone who knew the value of keeping on hammering away…

“When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without so much as a crack showing on it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know that it was not so much the blow that did it, but all that had gone before”

Light a candle

You may like to light a candle here as part of your Advent waiting.

Waiting for Jesus Christ to break into our world.

Waiting for change.

Hoping for, dreaming of, praying for a better world…
