hello carey folk

Hi, I’ve noticed quite a few visitors coming from Carey Baptist College, in particular an online learning discussion forum. It feels strange, this sensation of probably something on this blog being viewed and discussed, but because the forum is closed, I can’t hear the conversation.

  1. Hi Steve, sorry that is my fault. Some of my students are responding to your post by considering which ‘picture of mission’ their ministry context reflects. It didn’t occur to me that we were blocking you out of the conversation. But you are right we have. If it makes it feel any better, they are not critiquing what you wrote but using it to critique their own situations. I’m afraid the forum needs to remain closed because it is one for people to share personally about their experiences of ministry and that is not always appropriate to do publicly. However I will ask the students to consider commenting on your blog as well. I can’t tell from a blog post if you are actually unhappy or not, I would have thought you’d be pleased to get the extra traffic and new peple introduced to your blog, but any concerns, contact me at Carey.

  2. Appreciate the explanation Jonathan. Not grumpy at all. Am aware of the realities of need for privacy at your end (Laidlaw does same with their on-line e-learning).

In terms of picture of mission, the blog post is in no way comprehensive and I do want to develop it further and more systematically, (integrate with Bosch, with Wright, with “Picture of Biblical Witness”) but have not had time over last few days.

  3. glad we got that sorted! I just didn’t like to think of you feeling ‘strange’ (life is hard enough). 🙂

Actually, your blog has a feed on my blog, and so I hadn’t planned to check in on you again so soon but the title of the post caught my eye. Anyhow, I look forward to your Bosch/Wright/Taylor synthesis! I also look forward to seeing the thoughts/conversation your blog post sparks over the next couple of weeks that the forum is open. I’ll let you know if it gets interesting.

  4. thanks jonathan. i’m actually wondering about working this up as part of a chapter i’ve been aksed to write on mission in western culture as part of a book project in honour of Eddie Gibbs (Fuller). So if it firms up in that direction, I can’t blog too much of it cos of copyright stuff.

i pondered last nite the way that the www has shrunk and changed our educational worlds – I’m a baptist pastor, lecture at Laidlaw; students from Carey Bapt engaging privately online regarding a public blog. our world is so much more interconnected.
