our house is like a tardis

A friend visited our new house yesterday. They reckoned it was like the tardis from Doctor Who. From the road it looks small. Walk inside and it goes on and on.

Dear God
please may our house, our life,
call people on a journey, on and on,
into the mystery and hugeness which is the living God
.

What is a TARDIS? The TARDIS is the Doctor’s method of travel through both time and space – all Gallifreyan Time Lords use TARDISes for getting from A to B – and from then to now.

And TARDIS means? TARDIS, of course, stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. Or Time and Relative Dimension in Space, if you’re a purist.

You can download a tardis screensaver from here. For more Dr Who trivia, try here.

  1. As part of what we did at Christmas, our cell used a Tardis. We wanted to show that the incarnation is much more than is usually spoken of, much more than the commercial “Carols by candlelight idea.” We also wanted to move well away from the tacky sentimentality of most Christmas “presentations.” Also had the sound clip of the Doctor telling the sergeant that it was bigger on the inside than the outside. We made our Tardis from a fridge box and it looked really good. Had a mobile phone ringing inside. At the end we gave out laminated book marks with a Tardis on one side and the quote on the other. We received lots of favourable comments about the whole thing and how it made people think beyond the usual tinsel etc.

If you don’t have access to the sound clip and would like it, email me and I’ll send it.
    Shalom,

  2. kind of tardis-related… we have a life-size dalek in our garage, created for a video that we once made for a church event over here. funnily enough, we named him ‘steve’… [true]
