Christmas blame

Emergentkiwi is boarding a bus in town today, following a morning off with family. As a crowd surge toward Bus no. 28, the following conversation occurs;

Bus stranger: It’s organised chaos.

Emergentkiwi: So is most of Christmas.

Bus stranger: I blame Santa.

Emergentkiwi: I blame the baby Jesus.

Bus stranger: I blame the father not using a condom.

The crowd moves on, leaving emergentkiwi pondering how prevalent this rather crude notion of sexuality and the human/divine connection is among Kiwis this Christmas.

  1. I blame myself–mainly for not knowing enough about the Emerging Church. To salve my conscience and, I hope, make amends, I left a conversation starter at http://emergingconversation.blogspot.com/.

  2. That’s a very interesting conversation. Rather thought provoking…but that isn’t the point for this comment.

    I spent 3 weeks in New Zealand this past summer on a mission trip that went way too fast. But it was great. I just thought I’d tell you that. It wasn’t much different than ministering here in the States but I loved the New Zealand atmosphere and the people there…Christian or not. Most people didn’t have a problem talking to me about God or Jesus or their life or whatever. I would go back. =)
