foreign exchange dealing

There has been some good discussion around the kiwi~mission~diet. I live in New Zealand, so my figures for food costs are obviously New Zealand dollars. Tammy commented, asking how this might translate in her currency.

Can any of my blog readers
a) take the kiwi~mission~budget shopping list, and price it in their currency
b) ring a budgetting agency and find out what the average person spends on food.

I would appreciate such information.

  1. your shopping list is about twice as expensive as our food here in the USA, assuming you’re talking in american dollars.

    and i found this:

    ‘As of December 21st, the exchange rate was $NZ 1.00 = $US 0.44.’

so there you have it. we americans need to take the numbers on these posts and divide by half. which sounds pretty reasonable to me.

  2. ok – you asked for a list from the USA. here’s my estimate of what these things cost in rural ohio, USA — some of these i don’t buy very often, so it’s only an estimate (signified by ?), and some of them i’ve not heard of. and i shop at discount stores, where i bag my own groceries, so some people in the USA spend up to twice this amount at regular grocery stores. and things are more expensive on the east and west coast as well.
